Scott Weiland, PE, SE, President of Innovative Engineering, received the 2021 Thought Leadership Award from CRE Insight Journal.

Scott collaborated with CRE Insight Journal to produce a nationally recognized, award-winning webinar series and on-demand resources related to structural inspection and repair shortly after the June 2021 collapse of the 12-story Champlain Towers South in Florida. The webinar led by Scott focused on inspections and tips for consistent maintenance of commercial structures.

Scott also provided thought leadership for resources on the topics of Using Leaks to Identify Structural Issues and helping real estate professionals understand the most common terms and acronyms that are used in reference to building structures.

“The thought leadership provided by Scott Weiland has been tremendously helpful to property managers, facility managers, building engineers, and other property professionals in helping them navigate issues related to structural inspection and design,” said Gabriel Eckert, FASAE, CAE, Editor-in-Chief of CRE Insight Journal. “And through the CREInsightJournal.com platform, real estate professionals have on-demand access to resources like these that they need to best serve their properties and organizations.”

Scott earned a BSCE in Structural Engineering from the University of Michigan and engaged in graduate studies in civil and structural engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology and San Jose State University. At the time of winning the award, he was a registered structural engineer with more than 38 years of experience in both design and construction and specialized in building restoration, including façade and roofing inspection and repair. His façade expertise was the subject of numerous articles published in STRUCTURE, Georgia Engineer, and AIA Equilibrium magazines.
