Marie Kastens, RPA, CPM, with CBRE, was one of two people to be honored with the 2003 Pen & Quill Award from BOMA Atlanta. The award was created to recognize significant contributions made by an individual to BOMA Atlanta’s print magazine.

Office and Commercial Real Estate magazine began in January 1999 through a partnership with a Texas-based publishing company, and BOMA Atlanta had editorial responsibility for the publication, according to the August 25, 1998, BOMA Atlanta Board of Directors meeting minutes.

According to the February 4, 1999, BOMA Atlanta Board of Directors meeting minutes, the Communications Committee was initially responsible for magazine editorial development. Marie Kastens served as 1999 Communications Committee chair. According to the meeting minutes, “The committee will have the responsibility of dealing with all aspects of communications to our members, including the Newsletter, the new BOMA Atlanta magazine, the web page, broadcast faxes, direct mail, telephone and other means of reaching the various publics we need to contact.”

Marie also served as 2004 BOMA Atlanta President. Additionally, she earned the Real Property Administrator (RPA) designation from the Building Owners and Managers Institute and the Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management.
