John Wetherald

2020 | Committee Chair of the YearCompany: Russell Landscape Group

John Wetherald, Director of Business Development for Russell Landscape Group, was named BOMA Georgia’s 2020 Committee Chair of the Year. He served as chair of one of the association’s most active committees, Government Affairs.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which quickly changed the landscape of BOMA’s work during 2020, John led a committee of members to advocate on behalf of the real estate industry to ensure property professionals and real estate companies had the resources needed to keep their tenants, staff teams, and the public safe in the built environment. As chair of the Government Affairs Committee, he led the association’s efforts at the state level to ensure building managers and operators were classified as essential workers throughout the pandemic; secured state liability protections for commercial real estate companies; and achieved another advocacy victory by making available third-party private inspections and plan reviews to buildings seven stories and larger, which was not possible prior to 2020.

As 2021 BOMA Georgia President Natalie Tyler-Martin said, “John’s leadership is steadfast and his commitment to BOMA is strong. He is an exceptional leader who has inspired members to collectively and successfully advocate on behalf of our industry to ensure much needed protections and resources throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Our organization – and the entire real estate industry – has been strengthened by his leadership.”
