2021 | President's Award

Charles W. Huffstetler, BOMA Georgia’s human resources management consultant, was recognized with the 2021 BOMA Georgia President’s Award.

Charles has served BOMA Atlanta/Georgia in a consulting capacity since 2001. He has also served as an instructor for BOMI courses as well as BOMA Georgia seminars and certificate programs, and he has led the development of video content for CRE Insight Journal.

“Charles has provided both strategic and operational counsel to the Executive Committee and staff for many years,” said 2021 BOMA Georgia President Natalie Tyler-Martin. “And speaking of staff, he has also been involved from a consulting perspective in the hiring process of every BOMA staff member for more than two decades. His expertise in human resources and business development has made a lasting impact on BOMA Georgia.”

BOMA Georgia Chief Executive Officer Gabriel Eckert said, “Charles has been an integral part of the BOMA family for many years and has been essential to the success of the association. He is a collaborative consultant, a gifted teacher, and a dear friend. His selection as a recipient of the President’s Award is very much deserved.”

Charles earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Newberry College and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Georgia State University. He also completed continuing education programs from the Dale Carnegie Management Development Institute, Aubrey Daniels Institute, and Texaco.

He began his career in 1981 as a sales and marketing representative with Texaco in Columbia, S.C. He was then recruited to serve as a member of the start-up team at Performance Dynamics International at its Southeast Region Consulting Center in Atlanta, where he worked with domestic and international senior executives as an executive coach and business consultant.

In 1984, he joined Rollins, Inc. There, he progressed through several director-level positions, including service as Director of Group Benefits. At Rollins, Charles managed an $8 million self-insured health trust and achieved significant increases in staff productivity.

Charles joined Southeastern Mills as Director of Human Resources in 1989, a position he held for two years. He then joined Land-O-Sun Dairies, a diversified, multi-state manufacturer, distributor, and reseller of dairy products, in 1991 as Director of Human Resources. He was recruited to Land-O-Sun Dairies to help lead the company shortly after it filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy. There, he provided consulting around reorganization of the company and contract negotiations.

In 1992, Charles joined Allied Holdings, a $300 million integrated logistics provider, as Director of Human Resources. There, he managed a human resources department, providing services to more than 2,500 employees. He implemented recruitment, selection, and training programs that increased new hire retention by more than 30%; reduced new hire workers compensation cost by more than 75%; and achieved a net savings in excess of $500,000 in less than 18 months. He also managed the human resources infrastructure development to support the company’s initial public offering and subsequent expansion into Canada.

In 1994, Charles founded Performance Data Systems. Through this company, he provided outsourced human resources management support for various for-profit and nonprofit organizations. It was through this company that Charles began consulting with BOMA Atlanta.

Charles received the 2021 President’s Award during the February 15, 2023, TOBY and Association Awards Luncheon, due to a schedule conflict the year before. The award description at the time of his selection read, “the President’s Award is given at the discretion of the association’s president to a deserving BOMA member, staff member, or any other individual who has made a significant impact on the organization.”
