ENERGY STAR Excellence in Marketing

2023 | U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

BOMA Georgia received the 2023 ENERGY STAR Excellence in Marketing Award from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The award recognized BOMA Georgia’s leadership in promoting environmental sustainability, energy conservation, and the ENERGY STAR program.

ENERGY STAR, the United States government-backed symbol for energy efficiency, was created to provide simple, credible, and unbiased information that consumers and businesses can rely on to make well-informed decisions. Since 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped American families and businesses avoid more than $500 billion in energy costs and achieve more than 4 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas reductions.

The ENERGY STAR Awards program was created to recognize the EPA’s top partners in promoting energy efficiency and conservation. In announcing BOMA Georgia’s award, the EPA specifically recognized BOMA Georgia for:

  • Hosting an ENERGY STAR Month campaign in October 2022 for real estate industry stakeholders, which leveraged the Commercial Real Estate Insight Journal magazine and website.
  • Releasing weekly content throughout the ENERGY STAR Month campaign that covered various topics including reinvestment of energy efficiency savings into new technologies; adopting electric vehicle charger infrastructure and related costs and installation challenges; daylight harvesting; and how the ENERGY STAR program is used in commercial real estate.
  • Developing an ENERGY STAR Content Guide, provided for free at www.CREInsightJournal.com, that featured articles on building certifications and online resources for saving energy with ENERGY STAR.
  • Facilitating tours and in-depth case studies of two of the highest scoring ENERGY STAR properties in metropolitan Atlanta, Resurgens Plaza and Palisades Office Park, which involved the property management teams describing how they saved energy, the technology and programs used, how they use ENERGY STAR benchmarking and its importance, and how they engaged tenants in environmental sustainability efforts.
  • Creating the CRE Insight Journal Awards, which featured an award for Excellence in Environmental Sustainability, with the winner conducting a video interview to promote its successful program.

“As we accelerate historic efforts to address climate change, public-private partnerships will be essential to realizing the scale of our ambition,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “I applaud this year’s ENERGY STAR award winners for working with EPA to deliver a clean energy future that saves American consumers and businesses money and creates jobs.”

Only 12 nonprofit associations in the United States received an ENERGY Star Award in 2023.
