Government Proclamation

On October 25, 2024, DeKalb County Super District 6 Commissioner Ted Terry and District 2 Commissioner Michelle Long Spears recognized BOMA Georgia with a proclamation for its community service efforts through CRE CARES to benefit Decatur Cooperative Ministry (DCM). BOMA Georgia led a community service day to enhance DCM’s property and facility in Decatur, facilitating more than 1,000 volunteer hours and contributing a retail value of more than $100,000 in goods and services donated.

The proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, Decatur Cooperative Ministry’s (DCM) mission is to help families facing homelessness settle into safe, stable homes and build healthy lives filed with peace, hope, and opportunity; and

WHEREAS, every year, DCM serves more than 1,000 at-risck or homeless children and adults, with more than 50 percent of the individuals served children under the age of 18; and

WHEREAS, the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Georgia is a real estate trade association whose members manage and own over 280 million square feet of office space and numerous other facilities across the state; and

WHEREAS, CRE CARES was established to unite commercial real estate (CRE) professionals and service providers in supporting nonprofit organizations in need within our communities; and

WHEREAS, BOMA Georgia, through CRE CARES, has organized a community service project on October 25, 2024, to benefit DCM and the individuals it serves; and

WHEREAS, this community service project brings together hundreds of CRE professionals to enhance DCM’s facilities through hundreds of hours of volunteer service, and thousands of dollars of goods and services donated, with these efforts aiding DCM’s service to the individuals and community it serves.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, DeKalb County Super District 6 Commissioner Ted Terry, along with District 2 Commissioner Michelle Long Spears, commend Decatur Cooperative Ministry for 55 years of unwavering dedication to helping families facing homelessness settle into safe, stable homes and build healthy lives filled with peace, hope, and opportunity; and extends heartfelt gratitude to BOMA Georgia, through CRE CARES, for its commitment to being a compassionate corporate citizen to serving our community.
