Albert E. Thornton

Albert E. Thornton served as 1935-1937 BOMA-Atlanta President.

According to the September 14, 1953, issue of The Atlanta Constitution, Albert was a “financial and civic leader,” who died on September 14, 1953 at the age of 67. At the time of his death, Albert was the President-Treasurer of the North Pryor Street Corporation.

According to the September 14, 1953, article, Albert had also been a member of the board of directors of the First National Bank since 1912 and served on the executive and trust committees since 1917. He was also vice president and director of the Elberton Oil Mills and the Southern Mills.

Albert was a native Atlantan. He graduated from the University of Georgia and Yale University and in 1909, he graduated from Columbia University Law School.

After earning a law degree, he briefly worked with the law firm King & Spalding. He was a member both of the Georgia Bar Association and the New York Bar Association.

In 1929, Albert founded the North Pryor Street Corporation.

Albert also served president of the Capital City Club and the Piedmont Driving Club. Additionally, according to the May 29, 1940, issue of The Atlanta Constitution, Albert was one of the founders of the Piedmont Driving Club. He was also a member of Chi Phi fraternity.

The September 14, 1953, article also states that Albert, “contributed to many philanthropies, many of them anonymously.”
