Thomas G. Cousins, Chief Executive Officer and Board Chairman of Cousins Properties, received the 1974 Civic Leadership Award from BOMA Atlanta.

The October 7, 1974, issue of The Atlanta Journal described him and Cousins Properties as follows, “Thomas G. (Tom) Cousins is board chairman and chief executive officer of Cousins Properties, Inc., one of the largest diversified real estate development and investment companies in the Southeast.

“Cousins, who founded Cousins Properties Inc. in the late 1950s as a single-family residential developer, went public in 1962 and from that time began to diversify into other areas of real estate development and investments.

“He is probably best known for developing the Omni, Atlanta’s sports coliseum, and bringing the basketball Hawks and hockey Flames to play there.

“Cousins Properties is involved in building the multimillion dollar Omni International complex (featuring theatres, ice skating rink and the world’s longest escalator next door to the Omni.

“International City Corp., of which Cousins owns 50 per cent, is developing other major downtown city complexes in Norfolk, Va., and Miami, Fla.”
