Stewart M. Huey, CAE, received the 1983 William C. Clonts Award from BOMA Atlanta.

The following narrative was published in a 1983 “BOMA Awards” letter from F. Burt Vardeman, RPA, to the BOMA Atlanta membership. Burt was served as 1983 BOMA Atlanta Awards Committee Chair.

“William C. Clonts Award may be presented annually to any member within BOMA Atlanta who has rendered outstanding and consistent service to BOMA and to the office building industry over a considerable period of time. One or only a few years of outstanding activity should not eliminate a member from consideration for this award, but its intent is to recognize members who have demonstrated loyal and conscientious service to the association over an extended period of time. Election for this award is by majority vote of the Board of Directors.

“The recipient of this Award is a 1960 graduate of Georgia Tech who is a professional association executive and who owns a multiple association management firm in Atlanta.

“He is Executive Vice President of the Georgia State Association of Life Underwriters, Administrative Manager of Southcon, a high-technology electronic convention and trade show; and is the Executive Director of Building Owners and Managers of Atlanta.

“He is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) which he had conferred upon successful completion of a comprehensive examination and maintaining a continuing education program.

“The Chamber of Commerce selected him for a scholarship to the Institute of Organization Management at the University of Delaware. He completed six years of study and then was selected to be on the Board of Regents of the Northeast Region of the United States Chamber’s Institute of Organization Management. He was subsequently elected Chair of the Board of Regents, being one of only three people in association management chosen for this honor every year.

“Our honoree is active in the Georgia Society of Association Executives. He received the Cliff Clarke Award as outstanding Association Executive in Georgia based on personal leadership in his association, and in service to church, city and state.

“He serves as advisor to various organizations and last year was elected Chairman of the Association Executives Advisory Council of the National Association of Life Underwriters. He is active in Briarcliff United Methodist Church where he is an adult teacher and a member of the Administrative Board. He and his wife, Carol, live in Tucker and they have four children.

“He is highly regarded by BOMA-Atlanta and BOMA International as well as among local associations and association executives throughout the country. He has served as President of the BOMA Association Executives (International). He is called on extensively for advice and information and is considered an authority on BOMA and the industry it represents. The BOMA International office relies heavily upon his counsel and expertise. They are presently using him in a consultative manner to help develop a computer system.

“Quite often we overlook and fail to give proper recognition to those who labor for and with us daily right at our very elbows. It is for that reason, plus the high professional leadership he has given to make BOMA-Atlanta one of the finest and most respected local associations in all of BOMA, that we honor him with the presentation of the William C. Clonts Award for 1983.”
